Choose a bounded workflow
Start with a frequent, understandable task: finding an internal answer, preparing a document for review or categorising an incoming request. Define the inputs, desired output and situations that require a person. Avoid handing an agent open-ended business authority.
Check whether AI is necessary
A deterministic integration or ordinary automation may solve the problem more reliably. Use AI where language, unstructured information or flexible interpretation genuinely adds value. Compare cost, latency and quality against a simpler baseline.
Make safety part of the architecture
Limit data access, validate outputs and require approval for consequential actions. Treat external content as untrusted input. Keep auditable records where appropriate, and agree data handling requirements before connecting business systems.
Evaluate before you expand
Create representative test cases, including edge cases and failure scenarios. Measure accuracy, review effort, operating cost and time saved. Release to a small scope first, then improve based on observed behaviour rather than a polished demo.
Put the thinking into practice.
